This day allows arrangements at the park Headquarters with the guides and porters, as well as food and camping gear stocking.

Day 3 of 7 Days Mount Elgon Exclusive Hiking Safari: Budadiri – Sasa trail 2900m, – Sasa Camp – Mount Elgon Hiking Safari

We will start early in the morning for a long day hiking experience via Bumasifa and Bumasola communities on the base of the mountain onto the Sasa trail, this is a simple and faster way up the mountain to the base camp at Sasa, we will arrive in time of lunch, relax to gain more strength for the next day’s hike.

Today’s hike involves a hike to the “wall of death” – so named for the frayed local ropes that were used in previous years to climb up. Fortunately, the UWA installed sturdy staircases up the cliff face several years ago, thus porters can almost run up the mountain and you’ll feel the name is no longer deserved.

Above this, it is a straight, steep path through the rainforest and the bamboo zone to the lunar landscape above, proceed to Sasa River Camp 2900m for dinner and overnight. The distance is about 8 km and takes an average of 7 to 8 hours, 1700m walk.

Day 4: Sasa camp to Mude Camp – 3500m – Mount Elgon Hiking Safari – camp Mude

After breakfast at the camping site, proceed through the forest to the summit base camp – Mude Cave Campsite for dinner and overnight. It’s about 4 to 5 hours, 600m elevation. However, if you have limited time, working with a tight budget, and have fit, you can trek straight up to Mude, rest the night and strike out for the summit, Wagagai, the following morning. Regardless, it is best to reach the summit in the morning, owing to cloud cover after midday.

Day 5 of 7 Days Mount Elgon Exclusive Hiking Safari: Mude Camp – Sunrise – Wagagai Peak 4321m, – return to Mude/Sasa – (camp Sasa/Mude)

With very early morning, tea or coffee at 3:30 am, we will start our very early morning hike to meet up with a very exciting SUNRISE experience at the peak. This walk will take you through the moorland zone up to Jackson’s water pool, a relatively gentle walk will lead you through the caldera onto the main peak at Wagagai at 6:30 am, relax as you enjoy your packed breakfast, and later return to Sasa Camp via Mude or dinner and overnight. It may take 9 to 10 hours of elevation – 820m back to Sasa.

Day 6: Mude/Sasa camp – descend to Bumasifa – drive to Sipi – overnight – Sipi Falls

After breakfast, we will descend further from Sasa camp through the wall of death onto the open plantation fields of Bumasifa and Bumasola down to the parking point to meet with our driver, thereafter transfer to Sipi, for our overnight at Sipi Falls. (Meal Plan on F/B)
